Art Appreciation and Aesthetics
“Do the colors make you want to dance or nap?” “Would this pattern make clanging or tinkling sounds?” “Is this scene from our time or long ago?”
These are just some of the questions students consider when Art Docents visit their classrooms for monthly presentations. Art Docents guide them through notable paintings, sculptures and architecture from around the world. Armed with the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, students discover various artists, movements and techniques. More importantly, they form a lasting, personal connection to a world of art.
Creative Workshops
Foil Sculptures. Print making. Collage. Abstract Art. Figure Drawing. Digital Photography, Scientific Illustration.
Our students create hands-on works of art from Kindergarten through Middle School. Art Docents teach techniques and skills designed to complement the presentations while addressing the students’ developmental stages. Within the workshop frameworks, students freely explore their own creative ideas.
Student Art Show
At year end, every student displays their art work in the Annual Student Art Show. Our reward is witnessing their pride when they discover their creations hanging on the walls! Check out last year’s Art Show.
Guest Artist
Professional Bay Area artists visit each school as part of our Guest Artist program. Once a year, our students are treated to art created right in front of them, and often with their artistic involvement! Learn more about our Guest Artist Program.
